Mosul, Iraq

In July of 2017, the Iraqi military made a final, concerted assault on the last few neighborhoods of Mosul, Iraq still held by the Islamic State. Partners Relief & Development was there to deliver water and supplies to the civilians fleeing the fighting on the front lines. Juice boxes and crackers seemed simplistic in the face of such need, but we soon realized how needed they were due to the heat and lack of drinking water, which was causing many to collapse before they could reach the relative safety of the camps on the outskirts of the city. These photos show the conditions faced by fleeing civilians during the last few days of fighting to liberate the city, and crush the last stronghold of ISIS in Iraq.
